Utter Devastation

Last night I had a true sobering NY experience. Anybody who knows me well can attest to the strong sentiment and affection I have for my bike (a customized Dolan track bike).  It was one of my few prized positions I brought with me from Tampa and something that has served me well since I moved here.  Two days ago I recently purchased a new lock from B's bikes on Driggs.  Upon doing so I engaged in a conversation with the salesman about the difference in quality between the Kryptonite lock ($100) and the Knox Lock ($45).  The sales man told me that while the Kryptonite was better the other lock was quite good as well and they were both made of tempered steel which could not be cut only sawed.  This is what I wanted to hear as my cheaper self did not want to pay $100 for a lock.  the next day after a relaxing evening watching the philharmonic and fireworks in the park we rode up to Union Pool for a night cap.  It is a place I ride to often.  It is a place that many people who ride track bikes nicer than mine ride to often. It is on a crowded intersection on Metropolitan and always full of pedestrian traffic so between this and my new lock I had complete confidence.  Upon exiting an hour latter my bike was no where to be found but on the ground where it had been this was.
What the employee of the bike shop had failed to mention was that while the chain may be tempered steel it really doesn't mean two shits if the lock is not. they cut it like butter.
Bye bye my beautiful Dolan, you will be missed. Next time I will be buying a Kryptonite and it wont be from B's bikes.

Ahhh! That sucks so bad man... Damn, sad to hear that that beauty of a bike is gone. My condolences.
